Most businesspeople and politicians believe that the reason of all problems at school is lack of innovation – schools do not innovate. They really believe that competition will make a change. They believe that should get back the feeling, the feeling to press them selves to innovate or die. I believe there is some validity to this view but I also believe that it is to simplistic. It is more needed than competition in education. There is no evidence that more choice in education (where it is occurring) creating fundamental innovation.

We are all products of our age and as a result we act in the ways that re-create that age. Question is – what are we re-creating? In order to answer this question we should apply our knowledge of history.
In many ways, the industrial period had its roots in the fascination of Kepler, Descartes, Newton, and other 17th-century scientists. They were watching on the universe as a huge machine (the clock). In 1605, Johannes Kepler wrote: “My aim is to show that the celestial machine is to likened not to divine organism but rather to a clockwork”. Descartes made the clock his prototypical machine, and Isaac Newton assigned to God a twofold function: “as Creator of the universal clock-work, and as its Supervisor for maintenance and repair.” It became natural for these great scientists to describe the world as world which is made up of discrete components, which fit together like the parts in a machine. Once you analyze the parts, the world can be predicted and controlled, as a machine is controlled.

It is important to be aware of different factors that influence learning in order to support learning motivation individually. But the right way of teaching is just one of the tools available to the teacher. More important than this, are the teacher's own attitudes, perceptions and motives, as well as knowing what impact they have on the learner. One can say, that the real motivator for a change is the teacher's own intrinsic motivation and brilliance, skill and desire to notice something special and unique in each learner.
